The fortress belongs to the Borromeo family and its construction dates back to the <em>14th century<\/em>. Together with the <strong>Rocca di Arona<\/strong> they were the main control points of the southern lake regarding the traffic that took place on the lake. Its predominant position also ensured a view of the Alps, guaranteeing control of any enemy invasions from beyond the Alps. The interior of the fortress can currently be visited, including the famous <em>\"Hall of Justice\"<\/em>one of the oldest and most important examples of painting from the Western <strong>Middle <\/strong>Ages.
